History of the province
You can gaze at the oldest man-made tool of Pomerania or at a golden ring with a weight of two kilograms from the unrestrained days of the Barbarian Invasions in the department for Prehistory. The Slavic sleight of hand, the burning Arkona Castle, the rich culture of hanseatic cities, the closet of the Swedish kings, the model harbor of Szczecin or the impressive collection of Baltic souvenirs will be kept in fond memories. Highlight of the exhibition is the unique Croy-Teppich (Croy carpet) from 1554. It measures 4 by 7 meters. Together with the regalia of the principal of the University of Greifswald, used for centuries, this work of art testifies for the Pomeranian and Saxon history and shows the cultural area in a different light.
Share history in a modern way: contemporary witnesses, such as famous bishops and dukes, but also a young girl, at the eve of her wedding, talk about their lives. You can train to be a master builder at the work shop, use the abacus of a merchant, find out about the work of the Swedish surveyors or you can take part at the search for the sunken, legendary town of Vineta. Contemporary music, audio drams and film clips round off this exhibition. The exhibition about the 20th century is in work.<<< back
